Several local volunteers turned out at Dunsmore Park on Oct. 17, 1998, answering the request for help on annual Foothill Community Clean-up Day, sponsored by the Glendale CLEAN Committee, the city of Glendale Neighborhood Services and the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Twenty Years Ago

A neighbor heard two “loud crashes” and upon investigating discovered two large kindergarten classroom windows at Mountain Avenue Elementary School had been broken out. Investigating officers found a rock and a gray sweatshirt underneath the windows, along with some graffiti on a nearby door. Damages were set at $500.

Thirty Years Ago

While winds fanned brush fires throughout the Southland on Oct. 23, 1978, including some major incidents in the Malibu and Lake Elsinore areas, the Montecito Park area suffered a blaze that swept across 15 acres, causing damages to three homes. Other residences and businesses in the valley were impacted by wind-related power outages.

Forty Years Ago

The Crescenta-Cañada Human Relations Council invited locals to participate in a discussion of the plight of farmworkers and the boycott of the California table grape in a meeting held at La Crescenta Valley Methodist Church. The evening would include a showing of the film “Decision at Delano.”

Fifty Years Ago

The four-passenger 1959 Ford Thunderbird, “the most wanted car in America,” was being advertised in the fall of 1958 by local dealer Fred Hauter, whose dealership was in the 2400 block of Honolulu Avenue in Montrose.
