Inaugural CV High Hall of Fame

The inaugural Crescenta Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame will take place Friday at Chevy Chase Country Club, 3067 E. Chevy Chase Drive, Glendale.

A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner starting at 6:30. The ceremony will start at 7:30. The cost is $50 per person.

The 12 inductees chosen is made up of outstanding athletes, coaches and administrators dating back to when the school opened in 1960.

The inductees are Kenneth Carpenter, Brad Holland, Meredith Cervenka, Tom Holmoe, George Clausen, Mike Hull, Ed Goorjian, James Jenkins, Greg Goorjian, Mark Miller, Michelle Greco and Don Moses.

Carpenter was an All-American swimmer and water polo player for the Falcons.

Cervenka was one of the top softball players.

Clausen was the school’s first athletic director.

Ed Goorjian helped put the school’s boys’ basketball program on the map with help from his son, Greg Goorjian, one of the top scorers in CIF history.

Greco is regarded as one of the top all-around athletes in school history and a four-time state player of the year in girls’ basketball and later played at UCLA and professionally in the WNBA and in Europe.

Holland was a standout football and basketball player for the Falcons who quarterbacked the Falcons to the 1973 CIF title and went on to play basketball at UCLA and with the Los Angeles Lakers before coaching men’s basketball at the University of San Diego.

Holmoe starred in football at the school and then went on to play college football at Brigham Young University before earning three super bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers.

Hull played on the first varsity football team at the school and continued his career at Glendale Community College and USC before playing several years in the NFL.

Jenkins was an accomplished swimmer and basketball player at Crescenta Valley. He continued to play basketball at San Jose State before his life was cut tragically short in 2002. The Glendale News-Press Male Athlete of the Year Award now dons his name.

Miller was the CIF Player of the year in 1973 after the Falcons won the CIF title in football. Moses was one the elite cross-country and track and field athletes in school history.

Annual CV Baseball Camp to be held

The 12th annual Crescenta Valley Baseball Camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 29-30 at Stengel Field.

The event will be spearheaded by Crescenta Valley High baseball Coach Phil Torres and his coaching staff. The event is geared for those in grades three through eight. The cost is $75 per person.

A Santa Clarita Valley-based age group water polo club is seeking boys and girls between the ages of 11-13.
