Patricia C. O’NeilLongtime local resident Patricia C. O’Neil died Feb. 6 at age 93. A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at Holy Redeemer Church in Montrose, with burial scheduled for 10 a.m. today at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.

Mrs. O’Neil was born June 18, 1915, at Good Samaritan Hospital in downtown Los Angeles, where all but the first of her 10 children would also be born. She was the daughter of Brigham Tell Cannon and Cecilia Farrell Cannon, and the granddaughter of George Q. Cannon, a member of the Mormon Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and who served as a councilor to Church President Brigham Young.

Mrs. O’Neil was raised in Omaha, Neb., where she attended Omaha Central High School and briefly attended Creighton University. She and her husband, Robert J. O’Neil moved to Los Angeles at the beginning of World War II when her husband was hired by Douglas Aircraft. They moved to La Crescenta in 1945 and in 1952 to Montrose, where she resided until shortly before her death.

She is survived by seven of her children: Kathleen Braun of Mission Viejo; Mary Rucker of Sparr Heights; Rob O’Neil of La Crescenta; Kevin O’Neil of Montecito Park; Patricia Hoying of Manhattan Beach; Brigid Halpenny of La Crescenta; and Annemarie Frazee of Montrose, along with 37 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert J. O’Neil, and three children: Peggy O’Neil, Chris O’Neil of Klamath Falls Ore., and most recently the Most Rev. Dennis O’Neil, auxiliary bishop of the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino.
