Glendale Police are asking for the public’s help with any information concerning a hit and run accident that occurred early Friday evening.

According to Lt. Carl Povilaitis, a 26-year-old man in an electric wheelchair was crossing New York Avenue just south of Foothill Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. on Friday when a vehicle that was turning south off Foothill Boulevard struck him.

“The man was ejected from the wheelchair,” he said.

After the man was struck, the vehicle continued to push the wheelchair about 25 feet before the motorist fled the seen.

The victim, a local resident, was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital.

“Thank goodness the injuries did not appear to be life threatening [at the time of the accident],” Povilaitis said.

The vehicle is described as a Volkswagen or possibly Jetta make, light in color or white.

Povilaitis said that investigators were on the scene Saturday looking for possible witnesses. Anyone with information on this accident is asked to contact the Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-4840 or call Crime Stoppers at (818) 507-7867.
