ROSE LUNCHEON RAISES FUNDS FOR CHARITY

L’aureole’s annual Perennial Rose Luncheon and Fashion Show is March 7 in the Mountain View Room of The Castaway, 1250 Harvard Road, Burbank.

Margaret Clarke, president, invites guests to come at 11 a.m. for the social hour. Luncheon will be served at noon. Fashions will be from CABi, Carol Anderson by Invitation. Yvette Mosquera will describe the fashions modeled by Jean Cassidy, Jessica Charles, Shirley de Perini, Margaret Duran, Laurie Guay, Karin Jonke, Kristin Nelson, B.J. Ottenfeld, Shelby Potts, Jennifer Savant and Grace Williams. Music will be by longtime member Ruth Charles.

Proceeds will benefit the Glendale Salvation Army youth programs.

UNIVERSITY GROUP HAS GET-ACQUAINTED LUNCH

The Glendale Branch of the American Assn. of University Women is inviting new and prospective members to a get-acquainted luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at a private home in Glendale.

Membership is open to all women holding college degrees and higher. Undergraduates enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college or university may become student affiliates.

The Glendale branch recently celebrated its 86th anniversary of serving women in the Glendale area. Monthly meetings feature speakers, and the organization sponsors a variety of interest groups — book clubs, global interest discussions, bridge, sewing and travel. Scholarships are awarded annually as well.

LAS CANDELAS READY FOR FASHION SHOW AND LUNCH

Las Candelas members are putting the final touches on their biennial fashion show luncheon with the theme “Tenderly” set for Monday at the Marriott Hotel, 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank.

The reception begins at 10:45 a.m. and luncheon is at 11:45 a.m.

The event supports the residential homes and schools of Hathaway Sycamore Schools and Hillsides School as well as Verdugo Mental Health, Glen Roberts Child Study Center, Glendale Healthy Kids and Glendale YWCA Domestic Violence Program.

There are numerous opportunity prizes donated by merchants in the Glendale, Burbank, La Cañada Flintridge and Pasadena areas.

Several members have donated vacation condos in Kona, Hawaii and Cabo San Lucas.

GLENDALE BEAUTIFUL HAS ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION

The 59th annual Arbor Day Program will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael, 1330 Dorothy Drive, Glendale. Inclement weather location will be lower level of Glendale Civic Auditorium.

The event, organized by Glendale Beautiful, recognizes participants who donate funds to trees. The base cost is $45. Trees are planted at city parks, school and library areas.

Speaker for the day will be Russ Hauck, park ranger supervisor. To order a tree, call Gladys Wymore, Arbor Day chairwoman, at (818) 246-3634.

GLENDALE FLORIST GIVES LESSON ON MAKING LEIS

Mariann Atkinson, of Ivy’s Flower Station in Glendale, will offer instruction on how to make leis when the Burbank-Valley Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Assembly Building of Verdugo Park, 700 N. California St., Burbank.

The workshop is free, but donations, will be accepted to defray cost of the leis. An honored guest at the meeting will be Robin Pokorski, California Garden Club state president.

A potluck luncheon will be served. A bus tour is set for April 2 to the L.A. County Arboretum in Arcadia. The cost is $15, and reservations are required and limited to 40 people.
