CROP WALK RAISES $13,000, FOOD DONATIONS

About 200 walkers and volunteers, including 94-year-old Mildred Crawford and two “walkers” in wheelchairs, helped to raise $13,000 so far during the 14th annual Glendale – Foothills CROP Hunger Walk on March 15.

Participants met at Incarnation Catholic Church for the start of the walk and all were blessed by the church Associate Pastor Tim McGowan.

The event included walkers and sponsors from 16 congregations and two schools in Glendale, La Crescenta, Montrose and Tujunga.

Three-quarters of the funds raised provide disaster relief and other services in some 80 countries, including the United States.

Church World Service helps more than 3,200 food pantries and meal sites in the U.S.

The rest of the funds raised help support local food pantries including Catholic Charities’ “Loaves and Fishes,” ShareOurSelves Thrift Store and food pantry and the Salvation Army’s pantry and Meals on Wheels and the food voucher program at Glendale Community College.

Donations can still be made at www.cropwalkonline.org or contact Marilyn Hahn at (818) 241-0742. Sixty pounds of food were donated at the walk and were divided among the pantries.

To participate next year, call Barbara Blaine at (818) 243-4891 or Evelyn Horigan at (323) 697-4106.
