Board approves two local home remodels

Glendale’s Design Review Board #1 acted on April 2 to approve two proposed redesigns for single family homes in La Crescenta.

Owners Wade and Teri Culbreath were seeking approval on a proposal to essentially double the size of their home at 3943 Burritt Way. They want to add 1,534 square feet to an existing 1,416 square foot house, including adding a new second story.

The board members found the added size acceptable because the placement of the second story did not create an issue of adding bulk. The project is within the accepted floor area ratio. There were no objections from neighbors.

The second project, at 3941 Altura Ave., proposed adding 1,539 square feet of space to an existing 1,368 square foot home, maintaining it as a single family structure and adding space to the rear. The existing garage would also be expanded.

Architect Franco Noravian said the owner wanted to change the style of the home from the existing ranch style to a modern Spanish revival. Two neighbors objected that the style did not fit the neighborhood. The board members praised the single family look, made possible because of a deep lot.

Both projects were approved 3-0, with two board members absent.
