CV swim team gets 17th, seventh in CIF

Crescenta Valley boys’ and girls’ swim teams made a splash at the CIF Southern Section Division II finals on Saturday.

The boys’ team came in 17th place, out of 51 teams, and the girls’ team seventh, out of 46.

The boys were anchored by solid individual performances by senior Sharif Alaoui in the boys’ 200 yard freestyle (sixth place, 1 minute, 42.00 seconds) and 100 yard freestyle (sixth place, 46.49 seconds) and sophomore Andrew de Jong in the boys’ 200 yard individual medley (sixth place, 1:58.74) and 500 yard freestyle (11th place, 4:46.06).

In the relays, Alaoui, junior Jason Kim, De Jong and senior Tristan Winterhalter came in seventh in the boys’ 200 yard medley relay (1:38.65).

Winterhalter, Chris Veselich, De Jong and Alaoui came in fifth place in the boys’ 400 yard freestyle relay to lock up 17th place.

Kim also performed admirably in the boys’ 100 yard backstroke, nabbing seventh place with 54.44 seconds.

Winterhalter placed seventh in the boys’ 50 yard freestyle as well (21.73).

On the girls’ side, what wasn’t accomplished by Yumi So (see above story) was done in the relays. So, MacKenzie Hobby, Adrienne Ingalla and Julia Warden.placed 16th in the girls’ 400 yard freestyle relay.
