Night Walk at Descanso GardensMay 22 at 7:15 p.m. Docent Jim Jackson and wife Joanne lead an enchanted evening walk that covers botanical and historical highlights along with flora and fauna of the night. Participants must be at least 12 years old. Wear sensible shoes and bring a jacket and flashlight. Space is limited so early registration is recommended. CHILDREN’S EVENTS

Teen Dance June 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. The Foothill Autism Alliance, Inc. and the city of Glendale will host the first Teen Dance. The event will be held at the Glendale Parks and Recreation at 201 E. Colorado Blvd. in Glendale. Music, dancing, snacks and fun. The event is open to teens with special needs and their friends ages 13-18. RSVP required by June 3. CLASSES

Jump Rope Classes May 23 and 30, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Hosted by the Foothill Force Jump Rope Team, for all girls and boys in second through 12th grade and adults of any age. Space is limited. $50 for five-class session. FIS Gym, 4490 Cornishon Ave., LCF.

Square Dance Class Thursdays from 7:30 – 9 p.m. A weekly Thursday night beginner’s class and workshop for those who would like to brush up on their square dancing steps, presented by Set in Step Square Dance Club, taught at the La Cañada Community Center, 4469 Chevy Chase, La Cañada. Ron Durkee is the professional caller. The dress is casual, and the price is $5 a lesson. To have a partner is suggested but singles are welcome also. For information call (818) 790-6175.

EVENTS

Forest Lawn-Glendale Memorial Day Celebration May 25, 1 p.m. On the 94th anniversary of its first Memorial Day Program, the event will feature a memorial march at the Little Church of the Flowers and proceed to the burial site of a soldier who served in the Civil War. Glendale Mayor Pro-Tem Laura Friedman will read the Presidential Proclamation. Civil War Re-enactors from the 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry-Company K will be featured. A Civil War band, The Band of the California Battalion, will supply patriotic music. A Civil War musket and cannon salute will complete the event. The event is free.

Wine Tasting at Descanso Gardens May 28, 6-8:30 p.m. Wine Tasting Series at Descanso Gardens: “Amazing Argentina,” Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada. Savor a selection of fine wines paired with large appetizers which complement the flavor. Cost: $54 ($49 Descanso members). Pacific Outdoor Living’s Parade of Ponds May 30 and 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parade of Ponds is a weekend long, self-guided tour of some of California Waterscapes’ most stunning ponds. This year the event will consist of two tours: the San Gabriel Valley Tour and the Crescenta Valley Tour. Tickets are $20 each and are good for admission on both of the tours.

All proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit organizations Five Acres, AIDS Service Center and American Red Cross of San Gabriel Pomona Valley.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.CaliforniaWaterscapes.com. You must present your receipt at the Design Center, 2727 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta, when you arrive to retrieve your tickets.

GCC Dance Performance May 26 – 31. Shows are at 8 p.m. on May 26, noon and 8 p.m. on May 27 through 29, 8 p.m. on May 30 and 2 p.m. on May 31. Dance Production 2009 will be presented in the Glendale Community College Dance Theatre, 1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale. Admission is free and open to the public. No children under age 5 admitted. Seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Early arrival is advised. The Dance Theatre is located in the Sierra Nevada Gym. “Ain’t Misbehavin’” through May 31. The Tony award-winning revue pays tribute to one of America’s true originals, the charismatic songwriter, singer, pianist and superb entertainer from the 1920s and ’30s, Thomas “Fats” Waller.
