Landry’s tops El Sol

Landry’s Sporting Goods needed every run they scored en route to an 11-10 victory over El Sol in the Crescenta Sports Association Mustang League championship Friday. Landry’s capped their undefeated playoff run in large part because of an offensive display that saw every player reach base safely.

The team scored in five of the first six innings, the big blow coming in the fifth when each of the first six batters scored.

Landry’s led 11-5 after six innings behind the strong pitching combination of Will Smiley and Trevor Beer, but made it interesting in the seventh by giving up five runs before Evan Nelson restored order by retiring the final two batters.

Tait Rysdal, Garrett Hamilton, and Alex Jilizian came through big combining to reach base seven times and score five runs, while Brian Lara, Bryan Montenegro, Ross Leong, and Luke Rosette each scored one run during the pivotal fifth inning onslaught. J.P. Gallegos caught the entire game and had two hits including a triple to drive in his team’s final run.

Landry’s had a strong coaching staff that featured current and former area high school coaches Darrin Beer, Jim Smiley, Vigen Jilizian and John Nelson.
