Glendale News-Press seeking stringers

The Burbank Leader and Glendale News-Press newspapers are looking for stringers to cover high school football teams in the fall.

Writers will cover the three local programs — Burbank, Burroughs and Bellarmine- Jefferson — as well as teams in the Glendale and La Crescenta area.

Individuals should have a knowledge of football, some writing experience and have samples of his or her work. In addition, a knowledge of statistic keeping is a must. Writers would work mostly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

Individuals will be paid for their work and have their stories appear in print.

Hoover High seeking boys’ soccer coach

Hoover High is looking for a boys’ varsity soccer coach.

Northridge Baseball Camps to be held

The 2009 Northridge Baseball Camp, presented by Cal State Northridge baseball Coach and Crescenta Valley resident Steve Rousey, is currently in the enrollment process.

The four-day day camp is designed to develop physical ability in the areas of arm strength, hitting for power and foot speed and evaluating skill levels in fielding, hitting and pitching.

The event is open to players ages 5-13 and is offered in three sessions — Monday through Thursday, Aug. 3-6 and Aug. 10-13 — with daily hours of 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The cost is $260. Lunch and snack will be provided.

In addition, a hitting camp will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. during the days of the camp. The cost is $20 per hour and is payable in cash on the day of the event.

The camp will be conducted at Matador Baseball Field on the campus of Cal State Northridge, 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.

Running classes set to be offered

California State University Los Angeles track and field Coach Gretchen Corrales will teach a youth running basic class at the Glendale Sports Complex, 2200 Fern Lane, Glendale.

The 45-minute sessions will begin at 4 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 18 through Nov. 6.

Sessions will focus on the basics of running like a professional athlete and will include stretching, breathing technique, running with obstacles and nutrition.
