Local dealers abuzz with ‘clunkers’

GLENDALE — Local car lots are abuzz with activity and booming sales just one week after the federal “cash for clunkers” prompted a range of longtime holdouts to start making purchases, dealers said Friday.

The burst in interest is a dramatic shift from months of slow inertia as consumers, fearing the effects of the economic pinch, have waited on making big ticket purchases, dealers said.

“It’s been crazy,” Ron Smith, a sales representative at Bob Smith Toyota and Scion in La Crescenta said of the surge in sales.
