It’s not every day that a new business starts out playing host to celebrities while serving tea sandwiches, fresh organic berries, champagne and chocolate strawberries.
Dea Skin Centre — Modern Science for the Ageless Beauty owners wouldn’t have it any other way July 29 as they celebrated a new Glendale location and hosted an A-list of daytime celebrities from NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” and ABC’s “The Young & The Restless.”
A VIP, invitation-only party will be at the new center — in the Glendale Exchange, at 121 N. Maryland Ave. — from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20. The center will have its official grand opening to the public at 11 a.m. Aug. 21.
Owner Aida Azaryan, who arrived in the U.S. from Armenia in 1988, became a medical aesthetician after graduating college with a 4.0 grade-point average. She joked that at the time she didn’t even know what a GPA was, only that she had her picture taken and hung on a wall. Azaryan later worked at VJ’s Touch in Glendale before opening Dea Skin Centre.
Azaryan’s daughter, Violet Avanesyan, is also a medical aesthetician and works side by side with her mother at the center. Her other daughter, Linet Avanesyan, works as the center’s general manager.
The pair’s certification allows them to apply more invasive facial treatments for those who may have medical conditions, such as chronic acne. Doctors, Azaryan said, are also referring their patients to the center.
“We work with a lot of cystic acne, and we do advanced chemical peels. Basically, the education is a lot longer, and you get to do a variety of other treatments,” Violet Avanesyan said.
Dea Skin Centre, which set up shop at the Glendale Exchange in March, offers facials, massages, microdermabrasion, electrolysis, cellulite treatment, pain treatment, fascia release therapy, lymphatic draining and detoxification treatments, as well as the signature 24-karat gold facial.
The gold facial, which has a price tag of $350, leaves the customer’s face glowing and is excellent for events, such as weddings, Violet Avanesyan said. The three women maintain their training by going to conventions and seminars to keep up to date on the latest trends and technologies. Violet Avanesyan said she’s seen a trend toward body shaping treatments.
“Especially for people who don’t have to go to the gym or do the exercises,” Azaryan said.
Although the women consider Dea a high-end salon, it is by no means intended to be exclusively for high-end clientele. The center offers services at prices for just about everyone, Linet Avanesyan said.
“People don’t have to come in to get the 24-karat facial,” Violet Avanesyan said. “There is something here for everyone.”
The center also has its own line of skin care products called Dea Skin by Aida Azaryan, and its own customized liquid makeup that can be tailored to the client’s skin.
“Basically, depending on different skin conditions, if someone has acne skin, we put medication in there. If you need sunblock, we have sunblock,” Violet Avanesyan said. To make an appointment or for more information about Dea Skin Centre’s Services, call (818) 545-7331.
