GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes at the collegiate level.

Rebecca Salvo (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2006) senior outside hitter, Haverford College women’s volleyball: Salvo, a former All-Area first-team honoree, continues to turn in quality performances for Haverford.

Salvo finished with a team-high 15 kills and 14 digs Wednesday to spark Haverford to a 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 26-24 victory against Franklin & Marshall College in a Centennial Conference road match. She collected six kills in the second game to help the Fords (19-2, 5-0 in conference) draw even.

Salvo then picked up six more kills to spark Haverford in the third game.

Haverford picked up a pair of victories Oct. 3. Salvo collected 17 kills and 19 digs to propel the Fords to a 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 16-25, 16-14 nonconference win against visiting Eastern University. She then came back to put up 14 kills and 10 digs in a 25-16, 25-22, 25-12 home conference win against Johns Hopkins University.

Salvo and the Fords will travel to California to take part in the California Lutheran Tournament, which will take place Friday and Oct. 17 in Thousand Oaks. The Fords will meet Pomona-Pitzer at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Rachel Salvo (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2006) senior middle hitter, Haverford College women’s volleyball: The former All-Area first-team member has helped keep Haverford undefeated in the Centennial Conference. Through Wednesday, the Fords are 19-2 and 5-0 in conference.

Salvo notched five kills and tied for the team lead in digs with 10 on Wednesday to help the Fords earn a 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 26-24 home conference victory against Franklin & Marshall College.

In a nonconference match against Eastern University on Oct. 3, Salvo picked up 17 kills and 14 digs to help Haverford net a 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 16-25, 16-14 win. She then recorded 12 kills and 11 digs in Haverford’s 25-16, 25-22, 25-12 conference home victory against Johns Hopkins University.

Rian Younker (St. Francis High, 2009) freshman defensive lineman, California Lutheran University football: Younker, a reigning All-Area first-team member, recently turned in another quality effort for the Kingsmen. He finished with three tackles and one interception in Cal Lutheran’s 45-14 home victory against Whittier College in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Oct. 3.

Younker intercepted a pass at the Whittier 7-yard line and returned it for a touchdown to give the Kingsmen a 14-7 lead with 7:30 left in the second quarter.

In three games played, Younker has nine tackles and one interception.

Cal Lutheran (2-1, 1-0 in conference) will take part in a conference road game Pomona-Pitzer College at 1 p.m. today.

Tammy Panich, (Glendale High, 2009) freshman, Cal State Northridge women’s golf: Panich, who earned All-Area accolades the past two seasons, and the Matadors won their first tournament of the season. CSUN bested Cal Poly to win the 10-team Firestone Grill Invitational at Monarch Dunes Golf Course in Nipomo on Tuesday.

According to CSUN’s athletic website, CSUN and Cal Poly wound up the three-round tournament at 917. However, the Matadors won the tournament by virtue of a better score by the No. 5 golfers on each team. Panich had a 78 for the Matadors and Miquela Pendleton carded an 87 for Cal Poly.

Panich finished with an 85-86-78 to finish 36-over-par at 249 on the par-71 course.
