Photo of the week

Trying to make a nice photo with a dark sky is kind of hard. Fortunately for me, there was a bit of sunset painting the sky with purples, oranges and yellows. Looking around for a nice spot to shoot the Glendale Community College cheerleaders for a feature story, I settled on one facing the sunset, but I had to hurry because the last bit of sun was disappearing fast. Setting my exposure at f4 1/160s and 16mm at ISO 1000, I wanted to match the exposure of the sunset with exposure of the stadium lights. Shooting at an angle to get peak action, I also got the last bit of sunset light in the frame, which makes the photo look much better than just a boring dark sky.
