PTA News:

Now is the time for high school seniors to put the finishing touches on their college applications. Many universities have a deadline of Nov. 30 to turn in applications.

The 52nd annual Hoover Tour of Homes is Dec. 12, featuring four beautiful Glendale homes decorated by local florists. Included in the tour are a complimentary tea, country kitchen bake sale and performances by many Hoover music groups.

Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased at Hoover High School and other local merchants. Tickets will also be available on the day of the tour at each home for $25.

Hoover’s PTSA meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in Room 401. Members will share a potluck meal and holiday cheer.

Toll Middle School

Toll’s last football game of the season is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Roosevelt Middle School, 222 E. Acacia Ave., Glendale. The Parents on Patrol will meet at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 24 in Room 8104. All Toll parents are invited to come to the Toll TRUST meeting at 3:15 p.m. Nov. 24 in Room 1202.

Toll’s Destination: Book Fair will take place during school hours Dec. 7 to 11 in Room 1202. Also, parents and students are invited to participate in Toll’s Book Appreciation/Literacy Night at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 in Room 1202.

Congratulations to teachers Anni Pakradouni, Karen Kerr and Stephanie Brown and their homeroom students for winning the PTSA-sponsored Red Ribbon Week door-decorating contest.

Balboa Elementary

The Balboa PTA officers are happy to announce that they have reached their PTA membership goal of 100%. Many thanks to Chairwoman Blandine Aghayani for her hard work in helping achieve this goal, and to all the parents who joined.

Balboa’s Reflections finalists are Daniel Aghayani, Cynthia Babakhanian, Diana Danelian, Isabella Hakopian, Raymond Logan, Angela Minasyan, Jackson Rogers, Vivian Shakhdarian and Emily Zakesvosyan.

Thank you to Scott Sackett, Reflections chairman, and to the judges who gave of their time, including Don Bergmann, Jeff Lawson, Ernesto Lechner and Raymond Logan.

Franklin Elementary

With the FLAG foreign language program under way, a new dynamic has emerged at Franklin. Franklin will soon be acquiring a new Franklin Foundation that will complement the PTA with fundraising and organizing activities. Today is the day the Signature Fundraising items will be distributed to students. Items can be picked up today after school in the auditorium. There is no school Nov. 25 to Nov. 29, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Jefferson Elementary

Jefferson Elementary School will have a flag ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Thursday on the Jefferson lawn. Jefferson student of the month and student reading awards will be given out at that time as well.

There will be a PTA Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jefferson auditorium. School will be closed for Thanksgiving from Nov. 25 to Nov. 29. For more information on volunteering, call the Jefferson school office at (818) 243-4279.

Mark Keppel Elementary

Keppel’s annual Book Fair is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at Barnes and Noble at the Americana. There will be story time for kids, and the Mark Keppel Choir will be serenading the crowd. Barnes and Noble will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the school.

The PTA will also sponsor a toy drive from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4. There will be drop-off locations in front of the school on Glenoaks Boulevard and on Virginia Street on the west side of the school.
