Man recovering after collision

A 78-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by a motorist Tuesday night while walking in marked crosswalk on Colorado and Porter streets, police said.

The man, whose name wasn’t released, sustained a critical injury to his head, causing a brain bleed that has stopped, according to Glendale Police Det. Bill Frommling.

“He’s improving,” Frommling said.

“He is in stable condition.”

The motorist was traveling west in the second lane about 5 p.m. when she struck the man in the lighted crosswalk, he said.

Police are investigating whether the lights were on while he used it.

“The driver’s attention was drawn away from the roadway by her child,” Frommling said.

As she reached into her vehicle’s center console to grab an item, her passengers yelled out, he said.

“She looked up and at that time applied the brakes and struck the pedestrian,” Frommling said.
