Hoping the hills hold

Overnight showers were expected to give way to partly cloudy skies this afternoon, muddying already soaked hillsides that dealt with back-to-back storms last week.

Rain was not forecast for the remainder of the week, with clear skies taking over tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Los Angeles County Public Works and city crews worked around the clock this weekend to clear out burgeoning debris catch basins in anticipation of more rain later on in the so-called wet season.

Residents largely praised the network of concrete barriers, flood control channels, catch basins and around-the-clock debris clearing by public works crews last week as playing a major role in preventing any widespread damage.
