Hoover High School PTSA Honorary Service awards were presented on Founders Day to Narah Moon, Mahtab Haghpanah, Jennifer Capehart, Mariam Youssef, Arpine Ovsepyan, Bill LeClear, Narneh Khemichian, Lilly Mkrtchyan, Linda Hom, Kari Vargas, Dorene Bennett, Lee Briggs and Susan Yee. Congratulations, awardees!

Hoover musical theater presents, “The Sound of Music” at 7 p.m. Friday through March 8 plus a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee in the auditorium.

The public is invited as Hoover hosts the Rappin Mathematician, Alex Kajitani, 2009 California Teacher of the Year, at 7 p.m. March 9.

Hoover will host a Glendale Unified School District informational meeting on the status of the state budget affecting educational funding, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium.

Toll Middle School

The Toll PTSA needs a volunteer editor for the Toll Tales for 2010-11. Those interested should e-mail Margaret Hall at MhallPTA@ aol.com.

Toll Parents on Patrol (POPs) will meet at 11:30 a.m. March 9 in Room 8104. The next Toll PTSA meeting is at 7 p.m. March 19 in the Toll Auditorium. Toll parents are invited to the Toll TRUST meeting at 3:15 p.m. March 23 at Toll Room 1202. If you’re interested in volunteering at the Toll Malt Shop or POPs, e-mail Hall.

Balboa Elementary

The annual Founders Day Celebration was Feb. 18. Thanks to Chairwomen Lisa Deyell and Sara Khosravi, and committee members.

Congratulations to award-winners Carol Tensen, Scott Sackett, Laura Arevalo Linda Milano, Jane McVay, Liza Hemingway, and Raymond and Juiliana Logan.

The Everybody Loves Reading event was Friday. Thanks to community members who read that night and to Deyell and Khosravi, event coordinators.

Father Son Sports Night will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the school auditorium. The Mother Daughter Social will be at 6:30 March 11 in the school auditorium. If you’d like to volunteer at Balboa, call the school at (818) 241-1801.

Franklin Elementary

“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” was selected by students as the First Fun Family Movie Night at 6 p.m. Friday in the auditorium. Food and beverages will be sold.

Franklin’s Scholastic Book Fair will run March 16 to 19. The fair will be open after school daily, and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 16 for Family Reading Night. Students are encouraged to wear pajamas and partake in the popcorn and refreshments. There will be book readings, raffles and prizes with proceeds going toward book purchases.

Thank you to organizers Catalina Lee and Amiee Klem for a truly magical Mother-Daughter Tea.

Jefferson Elementary

Family Reading Night will be at 7 p.m. Friday in the school auditorium. The PTA board will meet at 6:30 p.m. March 18 in the conference room.

The Book Fair will run March 22 to 27 in the auditorium. Also, there will be a flag ceremony at 8:30 a.m. for primary grades and 10:30 a.m. for upper grades March 25 in auditorium.

Mark Keppel Elementary

Mark Keppel celebrates Dr. Seuss’ Birthday from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with Family Reading Night in the school cafeteria. Students can don pajamas. There will be guest readers and activities.

The Fifth Grade Committee will also host a Book Fair today through Friday in the school library.

The Keppel PTA hosts its Father/Daughter Dance, “Putting on the Ritz” on March 19. Tickets will be sold in the school office.

There will be a PTA meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 23 where Mary Mason and Lise Sondergaard will discuss preparing your child for the California Standards Test. If you would like to volunteer at Keppel, call the school office at (818) 244-2113.
