MILITARY PERSONNEL SERVING COUNTRY

Army Pfc. Junghoon Lee has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history and core values and traditions.

He is the son of Young Chul Lee of Los Angeles and nephew of Calvin Lee of La Crescenta.

Army Pvt. Richard A. Harvey has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history and core values and traditions.

Harvey is a 2006 graduate of Hoover High School.

Navy Seaman William R. Weaver, son of Janet G. and Ray V. Weaver of La Crescenta, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Weaver completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Weaver is a 2009 graduate of Crescenta Valley High School.

LIBRARY ANNOUNCES BOOKMARK WINNERS

The Glendale Public Library has announced the winners of its 33rd annual Bookmark Contest.

The winning bookmark designers are Claire Cho, Finley Corbett, Leslie Garcia, Matias Geiberger, Sophie Gekchyan, Diego Gonzalves, Vena Hakopian, Tina Hanessian, Luke Hino, Alexandra Hovian, Aileen Issaghoolian, Taleen Janian, Esther Jung, Mary Karapetyan, Elan Murray, Ginnés Paladini, Joshua Park, Elizabeth Shin, Chase Smith, Khashak Stepanian, Seiko Suzuki, Nia West, Emma Nicole Wooden and Riane Yassine.

For the contest, the library invited adults and children of all ages to create a bookmark design based on the library’s upcoming summer reading program theme “Make a Splash at Your Library.”

Six hundred people entered the contest, and 24 designs were chosen as Glendale Public Library’s official bookmarks of the year.

The winners will be honored during an awards ceremony on March 13 held at the Central Library, which will feature a special art presentation conducted by artist and animator Jim Gilbert.

All Bookmark Contest entries will be on display at the Central Library outside the Children’s Room, and participants are welcome to pick up their entry.
