PTA News: Students earn the spotlight

The Glendale Educational Foundation, in partnership with the city of Glendale, Glendale Unified School District and Glendale Arts, presents the 2010 Student Showcase at the Alex Theatre on Friday.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see what great work is being done in our schools in visual and performing arts.

Funds raised will go toward buying hand-held responder kits for all schools in the district to help teachers present curriculum to students in an interactive, high-tech manner.

Mountain Avenue Elementary

Parents are invited to “Mountain Avenue 101” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium. Teachers and PTA members will conduct a question-and-answer session about school activities and details on classroom schedule and curriculum.

Valley View Elementary

Students will showcase their special talent at the Talent Show on June 10. Students will see performances at daytime assemblies and parents are invited to attend at 7 p.m. June 11 in the auditorium.

The Sixth Grade Breakfast is from 8 to 10 a.m. June 14 in the auditorium. The class of 2010 will enjoy a Hawaiian themed breakfast and yearbook signing party.

Dunsmore Elementary

The Annual Carnival chaired by Amanda Granier will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday on the lower school playground. Tickets and wristbands are available for pre-sale, and will also be sold at the door. For information, call (818) 248-1758.

The PTA meeting will be at 1:45 p.m. June 9 in the auditorium. Immediately following the meeting, there will be a retirement party for two very special teachers, Kathy Lee and Merrily Prescott.

Monte Vista Elementary

The primary chorus will perform for students at assemblies at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m. Tuesday and for parents at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

The PTA installation dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Friday at a private residence. For more information, call Patricia Bitetti at (818) 249-3024.

Foundation meets at 7 p.m. June 8 in the Teachers’ Lounge.

Crescenta Valley High

On behalf of the PTSA, outgoing president Pat Chambers extends a warm welcome to the new principal, Michelle Doll. She also wishes to thank current principal, Linda Evans, for all her efforts on behalf of students during her time as a teacher and administrator.

The PTSA will have its last meeting of the year at 6:15 p.m. June 14 at the Outback Steakhouse, 146 S. Brand Blvd., Glendale.
