A police pursuit Saturday that started in Los Angeles ended in La Cañada Flintridge after police used a beanbag gun to shoot out the window of the driver’s car on a dead-end street just off Ocean View Boulevard, officials said.

The pursuit began about 9 p.m. when Los Angeles police officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious person in a vehicle in the 5200 block of College View Avenue, just off Colorado Boulevard, said LAPD Sgt. Fernando Carrasco.

“We got a call regarding somebody with a car at the location,” Carrasco said. “When they got there the officers ran the car [license plates], and it came back stolen out of Monrovia.”

The man, whom police did not identify, drove off in an old Cadillac as officers approached, Carrasco said. He drove north toward the Crescenta-Cañada area with several police units, including a helicopter, in pursuit to Ocean View Boulevard, where he turned onto Saranne Street, just north of Foothill Boulevard.

Officers used a beanbag gun to shoot out the window of the car and ordered the man to surrender.

“There was a use of force that occurred; then he was taken into custody without incident,” Carrasco said.

The man was booked on suspicion of having a stolen vehicle.

The incident drew dozens of residents and restaurant patrons onto the street. Ocean View Boulevard was closed for about an hour, and Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies provided traffic control, said sheriff’s Capt. David Silversparre.
