Man ID’d in theft attempt

SOUTH GLENDALE — Two men were arrested Saturday after a resident saw them trying to steal a laptop in his apartment, police said.

George Rosales, 19, and Yovane Rosales, 18, both of Glendale, were taken into custody late Saturday on suspicion of burglary after police spotted them walking away from the residence in the 300 block of East Palmer Avenue, according to police reports.

The alleged victim told police he had been watching TV about 9 p.m. with his family in the bedroom when he heard a loud noise.

He entered the living room and noticed two lamps had fallen and the window was wide open.

The resident then noticed a man’s hand reaching inside the window for the laptop.

When he asked the man what he was doing, the reply came as “Nothing, why?” according to police reports.

The resident saw a second man standing nearby in a dimly lit area holding either a knife or screwdriver, police spokeswoman Sherri Servillo said.

He immediately called police and saw them walk away from the apartment complex, according to reports.

The resident identified George Rosales as the man who reached for his laptop, but couldn’t positively identify Yovane Rosales as the second man, according to police reports.

George Rosales told police he had been recently released from Los Angeles County Jail on a domestic violence charge, according to police reports.

Burglaries have been on the rise this year, according to the latest police statistics.

Break-ins jumped to 355 for the first six months of the year, up from 288 for the same period last year.
