Former Burbank Unified Supt. Kevin Jolly has died, according to an announcement from a school district in Northern California where he had started as superintendent earlier this month.

No cause of death was given, and calls to Mendocino County school officials were not immediately returned. Jolly, who grew up in nearby Humboldt County, was named superintendent of the Round Valley Unified School District on July 1.

A statement from Mendocino County Schools Supt. Paul A. Tichinin said Jolly died July 23.

Local police and sheriff’s officials also could not be immediately reached.

In a statement released by Burbank Unified, Jolly’s replacement, Stan Carrizosa, said “we are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children and family.”
