Norman Ramos, a Keppel Elementary School custodian whom students and staff considered an inspiration, died this past weekend. He was 61.

No cause of death is known. He was an avid solar power student, having spent a week of vacation at a solar academy, school Principal Mary Mason said.

This year, he had planned on after-school solar lessons for students. He finished his eighth Los Angeles marathon this year, teacher April Faieta said.

Ramos began working at Keppel in April and quickly made an impact, officials said.

“We all loved him very much, and he will be truly missed,” Mason said in an e-mail.
