Eminent Domain Authority

The City Council on Tuesday is expected to extend the Glendale Redevelopment Agency’s eminent domain authority in the Central Glendale project area, which was set to expire on Sept. 29. The ordinance extends the agency’s condemnation authority for up to 12 years.

City officials say eminent domain is an important tool for redevelopment efforts, but emphasize it is used as a last resort.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The City Council will likely approve the ordinance, which was introduced without debate.

Communication Cables

The City Council will consider a $150,000-contract with Volt Telecommunications Group Inc. for the testing and repair of Glendale Water & Power’s system of fiber optic communications cables, which interconnect electric substations and water facilities.

The fiber-optic network will also be used to collect information from the new smart water and electric meters being installed by the utility.

Under the proposed contract, the company will provide testing and maintenance of the cables for three years.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely approve the contract.
