Congratulations: Girl Scout refurbishes area for cancer patients

Girl Scout Kristine Locker, of La Cañada Flintridge, a senior at Sacred Heart Academy in La Cañada Flintridge, refurbished Ingeborg’s Place Apart — a relaxing area for cancer patients at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. Completing the project earned her the Girl Scout’s Gold Award.

Kristine took on the task of refurbishing the room with new paint, flat-screen TV and sconces for wig models. She raised all the funds for this project by recycling — which she started in her freshman year.

Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s Cancer Services hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday to celebrate Ingeborg’s Place Apart’s new location, 311 A Merrill Ave., Glendale.

Located in the Center for Cancer Services, Ingeborg’s Place Apart provides a relaxing and supportive environment for patients, family members and friends to access a library of patient educational materials, including books, audio/video an online resources. Patients can also access a variety of specialty image enhancement products, including wigs, hats and scarves.

These services were made possible by the friends and family of the late Ingeborg Nord Zerne, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2000.
