Glendale Management Assn. contract

The City Council on Tuesday adopted a new one-year contract with the Glendale Management Assn., which represents about 250 city employees.

The association earlier this month voted to approve the contract, which includes a higher employee contribution for health-care and pension plans, in addition to a two-tiered retirement system with reduced benefits for new hires.

WHAT IT MEANS

The concessions will result in savings of about $625,000 this fiscal year, according to a city report.

Traffic safety grant

The City Council approved the receipt of a $254,795 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for a focused campaign on reducing speed on local streets.

WHAT IT MEANS

The grant will fund speed and distracted driving enforcement operations as well as pedestrian education efforts.

Marijuana moratorium

The City Council extended a moratorium on pot dispensaries in Glendale as city attorneys await an appellate court ruling on an Anaheim ban and the results of a November ballot initiative to legalize and tax marijuana sales.

Medical marijuana dispensaries are prohibited under the city’s current zoning codes, but the City Council approved a moratorium last year to close Glendale’s borders to the shops as city attorneys analyzed a complicated legal landscape.

WHAT IT MEANS

The moratorium may last for up to a year.
