Share

Public auction

The City Council on Tuesday approved the sale of one of five homes acquired by the city as a result of a $12-million settlement to homeowners whose properties were damaged in a January 2005 mudslide.

City officials held a public audition Tuesday for the parcel at 1338 N. Jackson St. then approved the sale for $464,000 to the highest bidder, Sako Arutyunyan.

WHAT IT MEANS

The funds will go toward filling a deficit in the city’s liability insurance fund, which was hit hard by the massive payouts.

Sponsorship requests

The City Council on Tuesday approved sponsorship requests from PATH Achieve Glendale, the city’s largest homeless services provider, and the Nor Serount Cultural Assn.

WHAT IT MEANS

PATH Achieve requested the city’s $5,000 sponsorship for the organization’s fundraising event, Casino Americana, on Sept. 10 at the Americana at Brand.

The Nor Serount Cultural Assn. sought the city’s sponsorship for the organization’s 12th Annual Armenian Independence Day Festival by offering a 50% discount on the use of Verdugo Park and fees for police patrols at the event.
