Parolee, recently released, held in alleged burglary

GLENDALE— A 44-year-old man was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of breaking into cars at a Park-and-Ride and trying to flee from police, officials said.

Matthew Cardoza, who is on parole for burglary and was released more than 12 days ago from prison, was arrested about 5:24 p.m. after fleeing from an officer, jumping over a barbwire fence and hiding in the bushes, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

A witness called police earlier after seeing a man peering into parked vehicles at the Park-and-Ride on Wilson Avenue and Harvey Drive and trying to open them, according to police reports.

Police searched the area and tried to detain Cardoza, who matched the witness’ description, but he took off running, according to reports.

Police chased Cardoza into a bushy embankment, where he was taken into custody.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possessing burglary tools, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

In the bushes, police reported finding a backpack that contained burglary tools and a Kenwood car stereo with pry marks on it.
