DOWNTOWN GLENDALE — An 83-year-old Glendale man is in the hospital with minor injuries after he drove his 2003 land rover off of the second story of a multi-story parking garage, police said.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Friday at the parking structure for Park Towers, a residential building at 345 Pioneer Drive, located between Central and Columbus avenues close to the Ventura (134) freeway, police said.

The man, a resident of the Park Towers complex, drove off of the second story of the parking structure, breaking the metal guard rails and part of the cement structure before his car flipped and landed upside down on Pioneer Drive.

The man was transported to the hospital, but did not appear to have suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

By 9:30 a.m., several dozen onlookers had gathered, some of whom reported hearing a loud boom when the accident occurred.
