Paying tribute to Coach

Hundreds gathered Saturday to celebrate the life and legacy of Gordon Warnock at La Cañada Presbyterian Church.

Warnock, who died Sept. 22 at 79, led the Crescenta Valley High School football team to its only CIF champtionship in 1973, and was a longtime sideline fixture during Friday football games years after he retired.

He was also heavily devoted to his faith, family members said. He was also credited as a transformative figure in many lives, student-athletes and adults alike.

He was a golfer, and enjoyed working on his home and being with his family, friends and his dog Fred, family members said.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the La Cañada Presbyterian Church Faith Missions Fund or to the Gordy Warnock Memorial Fund at Crescenta Valley High School, 2900 Community Ave., La Crescenta, 91214 (https://www.cvhsfalcons.com).
