Leona Brooks Smith

Leona Brooks Smith, age 98, born in Los Angeles, CA on January 11, 1912 passed away at her home in La Crescenta on October 24, 2010.

Leona was married to Gilbert “Smitty” Smith, longtime director of the La Canada Youth House, for 45 years. He preceded her in death in 1983.

Smith was an office manager for Los Angeles City schools and was an active member of her community her entire life. She served in organizations such as the La Canada Assistance League, Pioneer Club and Meals on Wheels. She was a beloved member and volunteer of the La Canada United Methodist Church for over 30 years.

Leona was survived by her 2 sons: Gilbert Smith of La Crescenta, and Melvyn Smith of West Chester, Ohio, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and sister, Vi Bowen of Selah, WA

A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. located at the La Canada United Methodist Church with Interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the La Canada United Methodist Church in her honor.
