Alva R. Cook of Montrose, California passed away on October 22nd. She was 87. Alva was born in Los Angeles to Gust and Esther Erikson in 1923. She graduated from Glendale HS in 1941. She married Del Cook in 1949. They were married for 44 years until Del died in 1993. She is survived by three children; Gary Cook and wife, Linda, and their sons Garret and Arron; Randy Cook and wife, Susanne, and their children Shea, Kyla, Tess, Brynn and Sierra; Jan Fairman and husband, Dan, and their daughter, Kathryn Shoup.

In a time when women didn’t work she worked for Lockheed during WWII, Gladding McBean, Glendale Printers, and Drewry Photocolor. Later she did volunteer work at the nearby elementary school. Alva and Del spent a lot of time in the outdoors during their early years. They joined the Swangers square dancing club in the 1960’s. Alva had a wonderful sense of humor and played more than a few practical jokes during her lifetime. She loved playing games, she loved hats, and collecting funny greeting cards. She really loved winning and she truly loved her friends and family. She will be missed by all who loved her.

A remembrance of her life was held at the Montrose house that her father built in 1936 and where Alva lived most of her life. Although Alva stopped smoking many years ago she would still be with us today had she not smoked cigarettes. If you would like to make a memorial donation in her name please consider www.tobaccofreekids.org.
