Briefly In Business: Porto’s expands to Downey

The Porto’s Bakery and Cafe empire has expended to Downey. The third Porto’s, following the original in Glendale and another location in Burbank, opened Friday.

Betty Porto, the business’ vice president of community relations, said 20% of the weekend business at Porto’s on Brand Boulevard comes from the Downey area. She and her family worked on the site for two years, building the store and adjacent parking structure from the ground up.

The new store is at 8233 Firestone Blvd., Downey.

Gift shop leaves Kenneth for Burbank

Emma Bloomfield’s, a gift shop that for nearly 20 years was located in Glendale’s Kenneth Village, opened last month at 2019 W. Burbank Blvd.

Proprietor Mary Whitney continues to offer unusual gifts for children and adults, including paintings and Limoges.

“Over the years you get a rapport and meet a lot of wonderful people,” she said. “I look forward to seeing them at the new location.”

Frame shop donates more than $3,000

Frank and Beverly DeLucia, owners of the FastFrame Store in La Cañada Flintridge, donated more than $3,000 worth of framing to the Glendale Historic Society for use at the Doctor’s House at Brand Park.

The historic structure, which is open to the public, displays more than 80 photos of its past residents and uses, relocation and restoration work.
