ER doctors named Hospital Heroes

Two emergency room doctors at Glendale Adventist Medical Center were named Hospital Heroes at a Nov. 5 ceremony. The event in Los Angeles was sponsored by the National Health Foundation and the Hospital Assn. of Southern California.

Doctors Cheryl Lee and Evelyn Wong were honored for their recent work with a team of doctors and nurses assisting impoverished people in Haiti. The team treated more than 500 people, saved three lives and delivered four babies, according to a statement from the hospital.

“We primarily treated wounds, dehydration, infectious disease caused by disaster and tropical conditions, ongoing poverty and chronic illness, and normal health concerns. We worked alongside teams from other churches and organizations as well as Haitian nationals,” Lee said in a statement.

“I thank God for the generosity of Glendale Adventist. The hospital gave me medical supplies, medications, IV antibiotics, narcotics, medical equipment and much more,” Wong added.

Dealership donates to Pacquiao foundation

On Nov. 7, Harlan Gittin, owner of Toyota of Glendale, made a heavyweight donation to the Manny Pacquiao Foundation, a charity focused on improving literacy in the Philippines.

The charity was created by Pacquiao, a member of the Philippine congress and holder of boxing titles in several weight classes.

Gittin presented a check for $10,000 to Pacquiao at a Hollywood gym where the fighter was training for his Nov. 13 bout against Antonio Margarito, which Pacquiao won by unanimous decision. Gittin also gave Pacquiao a Toyota Land Cruiser and said Pacquiao will be a spokesman for the dealership.

Gittin has promised to donate to the charitable fund any time a customer at Toyota of Glendale or Toyota of Tustin indicates they want part of their purchase to support the charity. Toyota of Glendale is at 1301 S. Brand Blvd.
