Police looking into two stabbings

GLENDALE — Police detectives continue to investigate two stabbing incidents last month, including one that left a 19-year-old man with 15 stab wounds.

Glendale police are still trying to determine whether the Oct. 24 stabbing incident involving the 19-year-old man even occurred in Glendale because he hasn’t been cooperating with detectives, Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Police responded to Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles after receiving a call about the stabbing victim, who had been brought by his mother, according to police reports.

The man had about 15 mostly superficial stab wounds, but one punctured his lung, Lorenz said.

The man told police that he was in a fight with three men on Oct. 23 in an alley behind the Valley West Arcade in the 200 block of South Brand Boulevard, according to police reports.

A friend picked up the stabbed man and drove him to a Los Angeles-area church, where someone tried to dress his injuries, but he eventually had to go to the hospital.

He told police he didn’t report the stabbing immediately because he feared it would disturb his parents, according to reports.

In the second stabbing, police responded on Oct. 13 to Glendale Memorial Hospital after receiving a call about a combative, injured man.

The man became aggressive with the hospital’s emergency room staff and kicked a security guard, according to reports.

He suffered a minor stab wound to his chest, which Lorenz said was related to a domestic dispute that may have occurred in the 1200 block of South Glendale Avenue.

In a separate attack in the same month, a 17-year-old boy was taken to Eastlake Juvenile Hall after stabbing another boy with a box cutter, police said.

On Oct. 8, on the 100 block of South Brand Boulevard, he confronted a group of boys whom he suspected of looking at his girlfriend, according to police reports.

He then pulled out a box cutter and stabbed one of them in the stomach, police said.

The group responded by beating up the boy, police said.

The stabbing victim was taken to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where he was treated. The boy was treated for bruises, police said.

Police later found the box cutter in a trash can.

Lorenz cautioned that the stabbings, though violent, were not related and don’t signal a crime trend.

“No one should be scared,” he said.
