Local jobless figures mostly unchanged, and relatively high

Unemployment in October edged up in Glendale and held steady in Burbank, according to the California Employment Development Department.

In Glendale, the unemployment rate grew from 10.9 % in September to 11% in October. In Burbank the figure remained at 10.2%.

In Los Angeles County, the unemployment rate in October was 12.6%, the same as in September and slightly higher than the 12.3% figure for the same period last year. The statewide job picture remained unchanged with a 12.4% jobless rate.

Statewide, government, education and health care were areas that showed the greatest job gains, while the number of manufacturing, construction and financial services jobs slipped.
