Briefly in business: Massage Envy Spa celebrates five years

Massage Envy Spa-Glendale celebrated five years in business this month.

Wife-and-husband team Helen McDonagh and Andrew Garsten are former marketing directors in the technology sector who launched what was then the 48th Massage Envy franchise in 2005. There are now 640 locations nationwide.

The company’s mission is to make therapeutic massage and facials an affordable and convenient part of people’s health and wellness routines.

Massage Envy Spa-Glendale was recognized by the franchisor in 2009 for having the largest year-over-year growth of any location from 2007 to 2008. Garsten stated in a release that the company will see 10% revenue growth this year compared to 2009. The shop raises funds for numerous local charities and employs 50 people, including 40 licensed therapists and estheticians.

Coat drive to help families in Armenia

The Unified Young Armenians organization has launched a coat drive to benefit needy families in Armenia.

Through Dec. 31, the group is accepting gently used coats and sweaters at its headquarters, 1100 Sonora Ave., Suite 106, as well as United Shipping Group and Universal Service Exchange locations around the region.

Nestle names new executive vice president

Nestle, the Swiss food giant with U.S. headquarters in Glendale, has named Patrice Bula executive vice president in charge of strategic business units, marketing and sales. He will succeed Petraea Heynike, who is retiring after more than 38 years with Nestlé.

Bula, currently in charge of the Greater China Region for Nestle, will take the new post effective May 1.
