Teen accused of starting small fire

A 17-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of starting a small fire on a hillside near the Brand Library, police said.

A Glendale police officer who was patrolling Brand Park saw the boy — whose name was withheld because he's a minor — throw an object onto the hillside, which ignited small area, police said.

The officer immediately detained the boy and two other men, grabbed a fire extinguisher from his patrol car and put out the flames, police said.

He found a lighter near the hillside, which the boy admitted to using to start the fire, police said.
