Possible suicide attempt near GCC

NORTH GLENDALE — Police on Tuesday investigated a possible suicide attempt in a residential neighborhood one block away from Glendale Community College.

The victim, described as a man in his early 20s, was taken Tuesday to a nearby hospital after sustaining blunt force trauma, which appeared to be from a fall, Glendale Police Tom Lorenz said.

He declined to elaborate on how the fall occurred, but said friends and family told investigators that they believed it could have been a suicide attempt.

“Preliminarily, it looks like an attempted suicide,” he said, adding that it was still early in the investigation, and that “more details on the extent of what happened will come out.”

Detectives and forensic investigators blocked off the street Tuesday at the 1500 block of Verdugo Loma Drive as they investigated the apartment building for how he sustained his injuries, Lorenz said.

Police cars blocked the hillside neighborhood as numerous residents gathered outside their homes, where some said they didn’t hear anything unusual.

“We completely understand the concerns of neighbors and the college … We, the Police Department, don’t feel that there was any act of violence,” Lorenz said.
