Inaugural awards sparkle at gala

The Glendale Educational Foundation presents the Inaugural Diamond Awards at the Dancing with Diamonds Gala on Friday at the Hilton Glendale.

Awards will be presented to Harvey Mason Jr. for Distinguished Achievement in Arts; Dr. Leland H. Hartwell, Distinguished Achievement in Science and Technology; Dr. Deb Rinder, Distinguished Achievement in Health and Fitness; Paul A. Raggio, colonel (retired), Paragon Award; Matt Zakarian, Premier Rose Award; and Nadia El-Fakih, Hope Diamond Award.

Fremont Elementary

Fathers and daughters are looking forward to the Valentine Dance at 6 p.m. Friday in the auditorium. There will be dinner, music and dancing.

Founder’s Day is 7 p.m. Feb. 17 in the auditorium. The theme is “Mad Tea Party.”

Tile making is back at 2:15 and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the cafeteria. Monies raised support student assemblies and the library.

Dunsmore Elementary

The first annual chili cook-off combined with Founder’s Day will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 15 in the cafetorium. Judges include John Garcia, Ed.D., Christine Giannamore, Kathy Lee, Mike LeFevre and Karen Stegman. After Honorary Service Award presentations, Joanne Voors, YMCA dance instructor, will conduct line dancing lessons.

Mountain Avenue Elementary

PTA’s Reading Incentives Program is producing “The Battle of the Books” for first- through third-grade classes during lunch on Feb. 17. This innovative game show will test students’ knowledge of fun facts from their favorite books.

Kindergarten registration begins March 8.

Valley View Elementary

The PTA meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium.

Enjoy an evening of music, dining and bowling at the Founder’s Day dinner at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at Montrose Bowl, 2334 Honolulu Ave., Montrose.

La Crescenta Elementary

Family Portrait Night is on Feb. 17. Look for the flier in Thursday folders.

The annual Daddy/Daughter Dance is at 6:30 p.m. today in the auditorium. The theme is “Back to the 80s, Dads Dance With Your Ladies.” Cost is $15 per couple, and $5 for each additional sibling.

The Jog a Thon is on March 10. This is the school’s largest fundraiser.

Lincoln Elementary

The Foundation meeting is at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 in the auditorium.

Spring Gardening Day is on Feb. 26. Everyone is invited to help keep Lincoln beautiful. Call the school office for more information.

Rosemont Middle

Come and celebrate Founder’s Day at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in the cafetorium. Assistant Principal Ron Sowers will be the emcee and music teacher Rod Yonkers and his students will perform music for this event.

Continuing Service Awards will be presented to Monna Johnson and Roger Sondergaard. Honorary Service Awards are being given to Carla Riehl, Laura Rivera and Odette Hairapetian.
