Steve “Sal” LeVasseur

Steve “Sal” LeVasseur of Mill Valley, California passed away on May 27, 2010 from a sudden heart attack. Born Stephen Andrew LeVasseur in Los Angeles, on February 16, 1950 to George and Lois LeVasseur, Sal, as he liked to be called, was active as student politician at both Glendale High School and Glendale Junior College. As a teen, Steve played rhythm guitar for the band “Sounds by Five” with friends David Ida, Steve Santoro, Bob Inglesias and John Nagy. He graduated in 1975 from UC Berkeley with two Bachelors Degrees and remained a lifelong student of design, music, philosophy, tai chi, and real estate investing. A talented landscape designer, he operated Golden Gate Landscape Company for 25 years, creating hundreds of wonderful gardens in Marin, Alameda and San Francisco counties. He is survived by his wife Yu-FengYu and son Leland Yu LeVassar, LeVasseur siblings Elaine, Marty, Philip, Jim, Ann, Tommy, and Dan, sisters-in-law Danitza and Sherry, and many nephews and nieces. Sal donated his organs as a final expression of his generosity and love for his community. A memorial service held on June 19, 2010 in Old Mill Park in Mill Valley, California, was attended by over 100 friends and family members who sang and spoke about how Sal contributed to their lives.
