Forum planned for families of special-needs students

Families of special-needs students ages 14 to 21 are invited to a forum from 5:45 to 8:45 p.m. March 22 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. Foothill Special Education Local Plan Agency (SELPA) is hosting the event, and it includes dinner, a presentation by attorney Carlos M. Gonzalez, and more than 30 agencies will provide information about transition services. Reservations are required.

Foothill SELPA coordinates services for special-education and special-needs students in Glendale, Burbank and La Cañada Flintridge. This annual event informs parents of services that are available to assist students in their transition to an adult lifestyle.

La Crescenta Elementary

Congratulations to Honorary Service Award winners recognized at last week’s Founders Day Dinner. They are Gretchen Barnes, Debbie Bright, Teresa Levelle, Jaleen Lunt and Marcia Sullivan.

Fremont Elementary

The 21st annual Walk-a-thon will be March 11. Funds raised will support the library, student assemblies and art docent program.

Valley View Elementary

The Book Fair will be the week of March 7 in Room 512. In addition to daytime shopping, families are invited to an evening session at 6 p.m. March 10 after enjoying a pancake breakfast in the auditorium.

Mothers and sons are invited to a special evening of medieval activities from 6 to 9 p.m. March 26 on the lower playground. They will enjoy eating dinner with their hands and friendly competition.

Mountain Avenue Elementary

The Founders Day celebration begins at 5 p.m. Thursday with the theme “Mountain Avenue Spring Training.” Ballgame dinners of sliders and hot dogs will be served, students and teachers will entertain, and Honorary Service Awards will be presented.

PTA hosts its annual Book Fair to benefit the school library from March 7 to 11 in the auditorium. “Wild About Reading” is the theme and will feature readings and book selections for all grade levels.

Dunsmore Elementary

Last week’s Founders Day event was also a chili cook-off, and the proud winning chefs were Claudia Langford (vegetarian), Rob Sommer (spicy), Sharon Frink (traditional) and Ian and Evan Dankowski (all-around favorite).

In addition, Honorary Service Awards were presented to Lori and Darin Budwig, Lori Cassley, Lynne Caver, Heather Dankowski, Mike LeFevre and Glenda and Mike Webster. Very Special Person Awards were presented to Anne Beglarian, Roger Sondergaard and Jolana and Serge Manoukian of Total Graphics.

The sixth-graders will host a Pancake Breakfast and Rummage Sale on Saturday rain or shine. Call the school office for information.

Monte Vista Elementary

At the recent Founders Day celebration, Honorary Service Awards were presented to Kevin Cordova-Brookey, Jane Montorosso, Susan Lee, Sue Miran, Stephanie Shintaku, Roger Sondargaard and Shirley Sycamore. Very Special Person Awards were given to Christie Kim, owner of Tazza Coffee, Bruce Kober, the Golden Family and Baskin Robbins/Togo’s.

Crescenta Valley High

“My Fair Lady” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 for student upper balcony, $10 for general seating and $15 for lower-level reserved seating. More information is available by calling (818) 426-0183 or by visiting www.falcontheater.org.
