A man reported that his ruby and diamond ring, valued at $23,465, disappeared from the men’s locker room at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club while he was showering.

Thirty Years Ago

Officials from the La Cañada Flintridge City Council and LCF Chamber of Commerce were invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of the 210 Freeway through the Foothills. The event, held on the Sunland Boulevard overcrossing of the freeway on April 3, 1981, celebrated the opening of the $38-million stretch that runs from Sunland Boulevard to Paxton Street.

Forty Years Ago

Members of the Service Gents Club at La Cañada High School aided one of their teachers, whose patio roof had collapsed in the Sylmar earthquake of February 1971. Mrs. Perrie Eidam, a resident of Valencia, was the grateful recipient of a rebuilt patio cover, courtesy of four teens and three adult supervisors of the Kiwanis-sponsored club.

Fifty Years Ago

Four of the five girls in the running for the coveted 1961 “Miss Shutterbug” title at John Muir High School in Pasadena were from La Cañada. The locals, nominated on their photogenic qualities, were Pat Bright, Sherry McClellan, Karen Cockrell and Cheryl Whitmore.

Sixty Years Ago

The last in a series of benefit square dances to raise building funds for the La Cañada Youth House (today’s Community Center) was held in the gymnasium at La Cañada Junior High School on Cornishon Avenue. Hosting were members of the Kiwanis Club’s “Foothillbillies.”
