Western Ave. ramps to undergo closures

The on- and off-ramps of Interstate 5 for Western Avenue in Glendale will be closed nightly from March 25 through April 20 as crews construct retaining walls.

The closures will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. with signs designating detours, according to an announcement from the California Department of Transportation.

The work is part of a traffic congestion relief project in which the Western Avenue interchange will be realigned to just south of Winchester Avenue, with the ramps beginning and ending at Flower Street, according to Caltrans.

The project is slated to be completed by summer 2014.
