[Updated 6:53 a.m.: Police say the woman who jumped from five-story parking structure died from her injuries overnight in the hospital.]

A woman who jumped off the five-story parking garage for Nordstrom on Central Avenue Tuesday afternoon was in “grave condition” as of Monday evening, police said.

The woman, who police did not identify, fell 52 feet to a concrete sidewalk. Witnesses reported seeing her jump from the structure just south of Broadway at about 3:51 p.m.

Northbound Central Avenue remained closed Monday afternoon as Glendale police investigated the incident. All that remained at the scene as of 4:30 p.m. was what appeared to be the woman’s shoes.

A security guard for the Glendale Galleria structure happened upon the woman as she sat on the ledge of the fifth story, Officer Teal Metts said.

When the guard warned her that sitting on the ledge was unsafe, she jumped from the ledge, Metts said. No injuries to pedestrians were reported.

The woman was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center in “grave condition,” Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Police reported finding a possible suicide note in the woman’s car, which was parked in the garage.

FOR THE RECORD: This corrects an earlier version to state that the incident occurred on Tuesday.
