An alleged drunk driver was arrested early Wednesday on the Glendale (2) Freeway after police found four unregistered rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his vehicle, officials said.

A California Highway Patrol officer stopped the 42-year-old driver, Aaron Pyke, at approximately 3 a.m. after he was seen speeding on the freeway near York Boulevard, agency spokesman Officer Ming-Yang Hsu said in an e-mail.

Pyke told the officer during the investigation that he had guns in his vehicle, Hsu said.

The officer found 554 rounds of ammunition, gun magazines, a .338-Steyr rifle, a 7.62-M44 Russian AK, a .22-Marlin 762 rifle, a 7.62-Saiga rifle and a loaded .40-Beretta handgun, which was registered to Pyke, he added.

Pyke was later arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol, Hsu said.

He was being held on $35,000 bail at the Pasadena Police Department jail.
