Hoover preparing for open house

After a relaxing spring break this week, Hoover families get ready for the school’s annual Open House, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. April 13. The Glenwood Road Block Party will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16, hosted by Hoover, Toll and Keppel.

California Standards Testing will take place April 26 to 29. Please help Hoover achieve the best results possible by making sure your students are well rested and on time on test days.

Toll Middle School

Toll Middle School’s spring break continues through Sunday. There will be an Executive Board Meeting at 8:30 a.m. April 14 in room 1202. Toll, Hoover and Keppel host the Tri-Arts Block Party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 16.

Balboa Elementary

Thank you to Mary Rose Grim and Scott Sackett for organizing Everybody Loves Reading, with special thanks to community members who read to Balboa students. The mother/son reptile social was a great success, thanks to Dawn Velasquez, event coordinator. Our sincere gratitude goes to Once Upon a Time Bookstore and to Sackett for arranging our successful Book Fair. The American Heart Assn.’s Jump for Heart will take place the morning of April 18 before recess. Also, thank you to Linda Russo Milano, who read to Balboa students at the last PTA meeting. Sixth Grade See’s Chocolate sales are in progress.

Franklin Elementary

Please note that students are out of school this week but return to school Monday. Thank you to all Franklin volunteers who make Franklin the exceptional school that it is.

Jefferson Elementary

There will be an assembly April 12 called Astronomical Journeys. It will feature 3D glasses. It will be in the auditorium at three times — kindergarten through first grades at 8:30 a.m., then grades 4 through 6, followed by grades 2 and 3.

The PTA association meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 21in the auditorium. There will also be a flag ceremony at staggered times April 28 in the auditorium — 8:30 a.m., kindergarten and first grade; 9:15 a.m., fourth through sixth grade; and 10:10 a.m., second and third grade.

Mark Keppel Elementary

Mark Keppel will participate in its annual Block Party with Toll Middle School and Hoover High School from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16. Mark Keppel’s silent auction will be held during the Block Party in the parking lot in front of Toll. Please check out the wonderful items that will be for sale there. All proceeds go directly to Mark Keppel.
