Get students prepped for testing

Hoover’s California Standards Testing begins today and continues through Friday. Students should be well rested and on time.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the successful second annual Glenwood Road Block Party.

Hoover PTSA’s 2011 Honorary Service Awards were presented to Donald Ashman, Homa Javidan, Mitch and Diana Zelezny, Kathy Yepez and Addora Beall.

Advanced Placement and California Standards Tests are in May. Families will receive a recorded message from Hoover with details. Schedule information will be on the Hoover website.

Toll Middle School

STAR testing of students begins May 10 and continues through May 17. May 19 is a minimum day due to Toll’s Open House starting at 6 p.m. The Razzmatazz Concert is from 6 to 7 p.m. May 25 in the auditorium. There will be no school May 30 due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Balboa Elementary

Open House will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 6, and the sixth-grade activities group will be selling items for dinner at 5:30, so no need to cook. Thank you to Charlotte Yarian and Janet Hakopyan for a beautiful Father-Daughter Luau. Thank you to Lisa Deyell for coordinating the Jump for Heart event. The annual Spring Fling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. May 13. There will be a talent show and baskets will be raffled off. If your business would like to donate a service/gift for the baskets, contact the school office.

Franklin Elementary

Thank you to the many Franklin parents, teachers and staff who worked tirelessly to pass Measure S. A special thank you to Judy Reilly Brousseau, our legislative chairwoman, who spent countless hours informing the Franklin community.

Mark your calendars for the annual Franklin World Fest from noon to 6 p.m. May 2. Food, games and special musical performances by Franklin’s Parents All-Star band await you.

Jefferson Elementary

There will be an Executive Board meeting of the PTA at 6:30 p.m. May 19 in the conference room. On May 26 there will be a flag ceremony in the auditorium at 8:30 a.m. for kindergarten through first grade; 9:15 a.m. for fourth to sixth grades; and 10:10 a.m. for second and third grades.

The Teacher Appreciation Luncheon put on by the PTA is at 11:30 a.m. May 27 in the auditorium. All staff and teachers are invited.

Mark Keppel Elementary

The Mark Keppel PTA is hosting the annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon at 11 a.m. May 5, in the cafeteria. The event will be to thank the wonderful Keppel staff for their hard work. The Mother/Daughter Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. May 20 in the cafeteria. Tickets will be on sale the week of the 20th. The secret theme will be revealed very soon.
